Ximena Osegueda
University of British Columbia PhD student Ximena Osegueda was found on Jan. 6, strangled and stabbed on the beach in Huatulco, about 500 kilometres southeast of Mexico City.
The 39-year-old had been missing since Dec. 13, until her ex-husband found her with her hands tied behind her back and her throat slit. The motive for her death remains murky, although the beach on which she was found was a known dumping ground for local drug gangs.
