Man tries to steal handgun from Whitehorse shop

A man faces theft and weapons-related charges in Whitehorse after an attempt to steal a handgun from a local business.
RCMP say a group of civilians detained the man Wednesday evening for allegedly stealing an unloaded 9mm Beretta semi-automatic handgun from a display case.
Police arrived at about 5:30 p.m. and the suspect was arrested.
The same man is also accused of stealing another handgun earlier the same day from the same business.
Police are looking for the second firearm but will not reveal its make or calibre.
The male suspect is in jail awaiting an appearance in Territorial Court.
RCMP ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the Whitehorse detachment at 867-667-5551.
