Halifax Regional police say a 78-year-old woman received a life-threatening stab wound Saturday evening.
The police said the incident happened on Flamingo Drive in Halifax around 6:30 p.m.
The woman was taken to hospital and rushed into surgery. Her condition is now critical but stable.
The police arrested a 41-year-old man at the scene. They said the victim and the accused are known to each other and this was not a random incident.
John Jason Salah is in custody and charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons offences. He'll appear in Halifax Provincial Court Monday.
