Alleged drunk driver hits Saskatoon police car

A man has been charged with impaired driving and other offences after several vehicles were struck — including a Saskatoon police car.

The incident started Monday around 6:25 p.m. CST at Idylwyld Drive and 22nd Street when officers spotted a driver they said appeared drunk. When officers to pull the driver over, the car backed into a vehicle behind it, then moved forward, smashing into the police cruiser.

Then the car, which had six people inside, zoomed away.

Later, several people fled the car, which had hit a third vehicle on Idylwyld. After a brief pursuit, and foot chase — involving some of the five passengers in the car — police arrested a 36-year-old man. In addition to impaired driving, he's been charged with refusing to provide a breath sample, failing to stop for police and three counts of failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Police said damage to the three vehicles was minor and no one was injured.
