Middle managers for the city of Regina will get pay raises totaling 3.5 per cent, over 18 months, with the first hike to take effect Jan. 1.
A new collective agreement was approved by city council Monday.
According to the city, the total cost of the wage hike — once benefits are factored in — will be $1.07 million.
The agreement covers 278 middle managers who are described as people who work in information technology, finance and engineering.
Their first pay hike will be a 2.6 per cent increase on Jan. 1.
The city also approved a 2.6 per cent pay increase for its out-of-scope workforce, that is: people who are not covered by a collective agreement.
The cost of the increase for them, a total of 217 workers, will be $602,000.
The city has yet to start negotiations with its other bargaining units.
Altogether, the city employs about 2,000 people, a figure which grows in the summer to about 2,700.
The other four bargaining units, whose collective agreements expire at the end of December, are:
- Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU), Local 588: 244 workers.
- CUPE, Local 7 (inside workers): 252 workers.
- CUPE, Local 21 (outside workers): 743 workers (+ 720 additional summer hires).
- International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Local 181: 275 workers.
