Potash mine accident claims life of man, 28

An underground accident at a Saskatoon area potash mine has claimed the life of a man, 28.

The incident happened underground at PotashCorp's Allan mine east of Saskatoon late Monday afternoon.

Potash Corp said the man could not be revived by first responders.

Investigators, including officials with the Occupational Health and Safety branch, are trying to figure out what happened.

Few details were immediately available and the name of man who died hasn't been released. The mine operates around 1,000 metres below the surface, according to a PotashCorp website.

Grief counsellors have been made available for employees and the mine is closed until further notice, a PotashCorp spokesman said.
