Sask. women win top award for charity cookbook

A group of 10 women from Foam Lake, Sask., who have raised $1.4 million for cancer causes have won the World Award for Best Charity Cookbook in North America.

The book titled "For the Men in Our Lives" beat out books from high-profile competitors such as Michelle Obama for the title.

"We wrote this book dedicated to the men in our lives to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer," said Patti Hack while accepting the award in Paris, France. "Thank you for helping us do that."

According to the Breast Friends website, the women started the project in 2004, listening to thousands of women's stories about their fight with cancer.

"We decided that awareness still has a place," the women wrote in a statement on their website. "Breast cancer scares us, but we have to continue getting those horrible, boob-squeezing tests and finding those lumps early until we learn what else we can do to protect ourselves."

According the the book's Facebook page about 1,200 people attended the gala in Paris from across the world.
