Seeding 74% done, wet fields a problem

Rain has slowed seeding across the province, although progress is still slightly ahead of the five-year average.

According to the Saskatchewan Agriculture Ministry's weekly crop report, 74 per cent of the 2012 crop has been seeded.

Over 2007-2011, the average for this time of year is about 70 per cent.

Progress is most advanced in the northwest and most behind schedule in the east-central area.

Things slowed down in the past week due to rain in many areas.

Farmers in southern and eastern regions are dealing with very wet soil conditions, the province said.
