Power restored after outages hit southwestern Ontario

Power is being restored after a power outage affected thousands of customers in and around Waterloo, Ont., Wednesday.

Waterloo North Hydro said 70 per cent of their clients were affected due to a problem with Hydro One transmission.

Officials confirmed the outage covered parts of Waterloo as well as St. Jacobs, Elmira, Guelph and Breslau.

CBC News spoke with Jared Cook, who was driving in downtown Waterloo on Wednesday afternoon.

He said power was out everywhere and pedestrians were helping to direct traffic.

"There was actually a pedestrian directing traffic at one of the stop lights," Cook said. "He was out in the middle of the intersection waving people through, using a snow scraper as a baton to direct traffic."
