North Korea is a mysterious place, known for its huge military presence, eerie cultural isolation, occasional nuclear tests, and a cult-like devotion to its leaders.

Kim Jong Un is the current subject of public adoration after he assumed the post of Supreme Leader last December following the death of his khaki-loving father Kim Jong Il.

But it is Kim Jong Un's grandfather Kim Il Sung - a guerilla fighter who went on to become the founding father of Communist North Korea - who dominates the history and landscape of the hermit kingdom.
