Edmonton man wins $15.6 million lottery
EDMONTON - An Edmonton man says he told himself not to have a heart attack when he learned he had won a $15.6 million lottery prize.
James Whittaker says he knew he had won some money with his Lotto 6/49 ticket in the Jan. 16 draw.
But he didn't know how much until he checked his ticket numbers with a lottery retailer.
Whittaker says then he became pretty calm and started phoning his friends to spread the word.
At first his girlfriend didn't believe he had won, but she soon came around.
He plans to invest his winnings and do some travelling.
“I’d like to live a simpler lifestyle,” he said Tuesday. “I’ve always dreamed of this moment.”
