Wall wants 'stache over objections of staff
REGINA - Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall wants to grow a moustache for Movember despite the disappointment of his staff and — more importantly — his wife.
Wall says he's wanted to take part in Movember — a campaign that encourages clean-shaven men to grow a moustache in November to raise awareness for prostate cancer — for some time. Senior staff have always objected.
"Because they think it looks dumb. They've seen pictures of when I had one," Wall said Friday referring to photos from the 1980s, including one that was circulating on Twitter courtesy of the press gallery in the Saskatchewan legislature.
"My wife is in complete agreement with the senior staff because she's seen the moustache."
Wall said it was the style of the day and he misses the moustache when he looks at those same pictures.
"You see this is where guys are different than girls. I think it looks great. I miss those days. I think that looks super and Tami doesn't necessarily."
Wall said he will go ahead if $3,000 is raised by Nov. 1.
But he warns people may not see much change.
"The interesting thing is everybody may win on this because, let's say we're able to raise enough money to overrule the staff who say don't grow the moustache ... then I keep growing the moustache. By the end of November there might not be a lot of difference," he joked.
"It doesn't necessarily grow in very quickly I don't think. And it's been a long time so I'm not sure what colour it's growing in at either."
