BARRIE - A Barrie barbecue queen is making the best pulled-pork in the world.
After winning the pork category at the 23rd Annual Jack Daniel’s World Championship in October, Barrie’s own pitmaster Danielle Dimovski is considered the best.
“The Jack is the big one,” said Diva Q’s Dimovski. “I had an incredible team with me this year. To win the title of the best BBQ pork in the world is a dream come true.”
The Jack was the icing on the cake for the Diva Q team who has had a successful competitive season winning top honours in a number of categories.
In the past few years Dimovski has been taking the barbecue world by storm, appearing on TLC’s BBQ Pitmasters, The Today Show, Canada AM, The Marilyn Dennis Show and more.
“We are really trying to get the Diva Q name out there and let people know that a chick can do it just like the guys,” she said. “We have got some of Canada’s top barbecuers behind us. Things are looking up.”
Its been a tough road for the Diva Q team, one that includes many late nights working on perfecting the newest recipe.
“There’s days when it’s an insane balance,” she said. “I’m a competitive barbecuer but I’ve also got to get the kids to soccer and swimming.”
Dimovski’s kitchen features two cabinets full of spices, and more than 100 cookbooks.
“I have 18 grills in my backyard,” she said. “There’s something magical when meat hits a grill. When you put a 20 pound pork shoulder on the grill and it turns this deep mahogany colour.”
