Cambridge novice Blue Coyotes softball team returned to Niagara last weekend to defend their title in the Niagara Falls Teddy Bear Fastball Tournament.

The Coyotes began their weekend on one of the hottest days yet this season. Cambridge was also on fire as it only took them three innings to dispatch the hosts 11-0, allowing just one hit in the shutout.

The Coyotes continued their dominance through round-robin play, beating the Napanee Express 7-0, Port Dover 19-3 and CSL Select 7-0.

Despite their 4-0 record, it took just one run for the Coyotes to finish first in the seven-team division.

Cambridge met up with the Waterloo Ghosts and easily disposed of their regular season rivals 12-1.

In the final, it was a matchup against the Brampton Blazers. The Blazers were the toughest team the Coyotes played all weekend, but managed to shut down their opponent’s offence for a 6-0 win to win the gold medal for the second year in a row.

The Coyotes are: Victoria Barroso, Kylie Bilodeau, Presly Buchanan, Keeley Cea, Sam Ciupa, Amy Claydon, Sarah Costa, Megan Jesse, Shanna Lahey, Jen McDonald, Erin vanKooy and Ashley Wilson.
