The name may be changing, but Stage West is still going to present the musicals and live stage shows it has become known for in Mississauga.

General manager Muhammed Huq announced yesterday that the hotel and theatre will be changing its name to the Ramada Plaza Toronto Airport Hotel & Stage West Theatre after working out an agreement to become a franchise of Ramada Worldwide, which is owned by the Wyndham Hotel Group.

However, it will still present its usual assortment of live stage shows, musicals and revues. The current show, Why Do Fools Fall In Love? , continues until Sept. 5.

Huq said, after 26 years of being an independent hotel, it made sense to become part of a larger chain. For example, now customers can collect and use Wyndham Rewards points at the hotel as well as all the benefits that come with a well-recognized brand such as Ramada.

There's also other benefits like tapping into Ramada's reservation booking system. Huq said someone coming to the GTA who called Ramada to book a room will now have the Ramada Plaza Toronto Airport Hotel & Stage West Theatre as an option for the booking agent.

"The hotel will continue to be managed by Stagewest Hospitality, but as a result of this association our customers will benefit greatly, including being able to collect and redeem Wyndham Rewards points at our property as well as at participating Wyndham Hotel Group properties across the globe," said Huq. "We're proud to be associated with the group and know we will benefit from the international brand recognition of the Ramada and Wyndham names — leaders in the hospitality industry."

Huq said there are plans to upgrade the theatre as well. When the current shows closes, the theatre will be closed until Sept. 19 to renovate the buffet area. Divorce Party opens on Sept. 20, making it the theatre's 127th production.

The hotel features 224 suites, meeting and convention facilities, a three-storey indoor waterslide and salt water pool, fitness room and restaurant.
