Canada's top up-and-coming figure skaters have arrived in Mississauga for the 2013 Canadian championships.

The week-long event kicked off today with novice and junior skaters practicing on ice.

They'll compete between tomorrow and Thursday while Canada's top senior skaters, including reigning world men's champion Patrick Chan and ice dance champs Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, will be on the ice from Friday to next Sunday.

Defending national senior women's champion Amelie Lacoste and reigning pairs champs Megan Duhamel and Eric Radford  will also be at the Hershey Centre.

The skaters will compete for spots on the Skate Canada National Team and Canadian teams that will compete at the 2013 World Championships in London, Ont. and the World Junior Championships in Italy.
