Saturday marked the end of the individual portion of the Ontario Summer Games fencing competition, considered the provincial championships for the sport this year, with both the men’s and women’s foil competition. Newly minted provincial champion Jenny Zhao from Kanata finished first for gold in the women’s foil final ahead of North York’s Angela Li and Maple’s Michelle Li. Karina Li of North York finished fourth in the field. On the men’s side, Mississauga’s Josh Brar took top spot in foil ahead of Alan Gao and Aiden Heffernan of Ottawa. Joerg Oxborough finished fourth. The last remaining event for fencing at the Games is the team championships portion which takes place Sunday. Kington’s Cutting Edge Fencing Club took the team event two years ago in Sudbury and are aiming to retain that title.
