The GTA under 16 boys field hockey team is looking to win gold after defeating the Ontario West team in the semifinals, 10-0. “They’ve been working hard. They’ve been looking forward to this tournament and it’s finally nice to play in a competitive tournament,” said the boys coach Jeewanjot Bath of Brampton. On Saturday, Aug. 18, five boys on the team scored the goals that got them into the final round being played on Sunday at Toronto’s Lamport Stadium. Goals were achieved by Keith Lee 15, of Mississauga, Sahibjodh Singh 13, of Bolton, Jugraj Kalkat 16, and Arshjot Toor 13, both of Malton, and Ganga Singh 12, of Etobicoke who pulled-off a hat trick. The boys will play Central West in the final match. “Strategy has been just keeping in simple you know, pass the ball, support each other, just keep things simple, simple works the best,” said Bath. “The guys are playing well, hopefully we can do well in the finals as well.” The Ontario Summer Games field hockey tournament began with preliminary rounds on Friday, Aug. 17 and finishes end-of-day Sunday, Aug. 19. – Laura Booth;
