Andre Harvey Richard, the 44-year-old man arrested after a violent attack on his family in their home early Wednesday morning, has been charged with three counts of attempted murder and 10 other related charges.
Richard was being sought after allegedly breaking in and setting fire to the house in the Vancouver suburb of Langley, B.C., where his estranged wife, son and stepdaughter lived.
Police said Richard allegedly also attacked his wife and stepdaughter with a weapon during the break-in.
Richard was arrested Thursday near the small community of Fernie, B.C., after a passing motorist noticed him driving erratically.
Langley RCMP said Friday that Richard now faces 13 criminal charges, including three counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault causing bodily harm, one count of arson and one count of breaking and entering.
Richard has also been charged with four counts of assault with a weapon, involving two weapons and two victims.
Langley RCMP's Supt. Derek Cooke said the media and the public helped the police track Richard down.
"This was a tragic event which thankfully now has successful conclusion," Cooke said in a written statement. "I would like to express my thanks for the role played by the media, the general public and in particular the individual who brought Richard to police attention."
Richard is scheduled to appear in court Monday.
