The new iPad mini with Retina Display is now available in Canada and other countries.
The smaller iPad, which has a 7.9-inch screen, went on sale today online and in stores across the country.
It is the first iPad mini to feature Apple’s Retina Display technology, giving its screen twice as many pixels per inch as the original iPad mini.
The new device is also lighter and faster, featuring an A7 chip billed as “powerful and power-efficient“ instead of the A5 chip used in the earlier version.
The device is available in two colours, silver and space grey.
In Canada, Wi-Fi-only models will start at $419 for a 16GB gigabyte model, while cellular-capable models will start at $549 for the 16GB model. In the U.S., those models cost $399 and $529 respectively.
Apple said the device can be ordered through the Apple Online Store. Customers can get it shipped or they can pick it up at an Apple retail store or select Apple authorized reseller via a service called Personal Pickup. The service lets customers pick up their online purchase as soon as an hour after ordering it.
The iPad mini can also be purchased directly from Apple stores and other electronics retailers.
The iPad Air, Apple’s new 9.7-inch tablet, went on sale Nov.1. Apple had announced that the iPad mini would become available later in November, but did not say exactly when.
