Teen sisters missing in eastern Ontario provincial park

Ontario Provincial Police are searching through Bon Echo Provincial Park for two teenage sisters who went for a walk Thursday but didn't return.

Police say Jenna Kip, 16, and her sister Emma, 13, of New Hamburg — a small community just west of Kitchener, Ont. — were with their family at the Hardwood Hills campground at the park north of Belleville when they went for a walk around 10:00 a.m. ET Thursday. That was the last time they were seen.

Police and park staff are searching for the teens by boat, ATV, helicopter and with the help of two dozen officers as well as police dogs.

"Weather yesterday was quite good," OPP Const. Stacey Cooper said Friday. "They were dressed appropriately. They're young healthy girls."

Cooper said the biggest obstacle hampering the search is the vastness of Bon Echo park.

"It is a park that offers all sorts of different trails and paths. There's lakes and creeks. It's a huge area," she said.

Sarah Guild, the bestfriend of Jenna, told CBC News that many people are remaining positive.

"I have hope that maybe they’re just lost and someone’s going to find them and I just hope and pray that they’re just going to be safe," she said.

Police described Emma Kip as five feet, two inches tall, about 115 pounds. She has shoulder-length hair, with a white headband in a bow, a fair complexion and freckles.

Officers said she last seen wearing long sleeve top and leggings and beige crocs.

Her sister Jenna Kip is described as five feet five inches tall and approximately 135 pounds.

Police said she has straight reddish brown shoulder-length hair with a fair complexion. She was last seen wearing a black windbreaker and black running shoes.

Anyone who may have seen the girls is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
