A 54-year-old woman has died after her father, trying to park the vehicle, struck her near The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus Saturday morning.
Paramedics responded to a call for a pedestrian struck on Parkdale Avenue between Inglewood Place and Ruskin Street at 10:23 a.m., right outside the hospital just west of downtown Ottawa.
The driver of a black Ford Flex crossover struck the woman and her vital signs were absent when paramedics arrived, they said.
She sustained multi-system traumatic injuries and paramedics began aggressive advance life support. The woman was then taken to the hospital’s trauma centre where she later died from her injuries.
A witness said a Trenton, Ont., man in his 80s was trying to park the vehicle as he was visiting a family member at the hospital.
His daughter, the crash victim, was helping him park when he struck her, a witness said.
Ottawa police closed Parkdale between Ruskin and Carling Avenue to investigate, but they reopened the road just after 4 p.m. ET Saturday.
